FAQ Tattoo Removal Frankfurt and Wiesbaden

The cost depends on the size of the area to be treated. For larger tattoos, we will gladly provide you with a personalized cost estimate before treatment begins. Generally, you pay per treatment; however, our doctors and laser center in Frankfurt and Wiesbaden also offers discounted treatment packages.

Avoid direct sunlight and tanning beds for some time before starting treatment. If your skin is pale, the risk of pigmentation problems from the treatment is minimal. Some medications can significantly increase photosensitivity. Therefore, please inform us if you regularly take any medication.

Laser tattoo removal should not be performed during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. Treatment can be safely resumed after breastfeeding.

Immediately after the treatment, the lasered area is protected with a cream and a bandage or plaster. A scab will form over the next few days, and blisters may also develop. Ensure the area is protected from friction. Once the scab has fallen off, you can remove the plaster and apply a moisturizing ointment for aftercare.

Blisters may form after the treatment. A scab will also develop, which will fall off on its own after approximately two to three weeks. With well-executed tattoos using an average amount of ink, the risk of scarring is very low. The laser, specifically developed for tattoos and featuring a very short pulse duration, prevents scarring because the skin is only heated for an extremely short time.

For a professionally done tattoo, you should definitely expect four to six treatments. The more ink a tattoo contains, or the "fresher" it is, the more treatments will be necessary. Pale, old, or self-inflicted tattoos can sometimes be completely removed after just three or four treatments. On the other hand, very dark and deeply inked tattoos may require more than ten treatments.

If the pigment is located on the surface of the skin, some of it will be shed along with the scab after laser treatment. A large portion of the loosened pigment is then transported away via the lymphatic system. This removal process can be accelerated with lymphatic drainage, which we also offer. For this to be effective, it is necessary to perform lymphatic drainage for at least half an hour after the treatment.

The pain of a single laser pulse is similar to the pain of getting a tattoo. If desired, a test pulse can be applied to the skin during the consultation so you can get an impression of the treatment.

Because these particles do not absorb the laser light, but rather reflect it. Therefore, the color particles cannot be destroyed by the laser.

Besides laser removal, there are other methods to remove your unwanted tattoo, which are briefly explained here. However, we advise against all methods except laser tattoo removal. Method 1: Removal using electricity. In this method, heat is applied to the skin using electricity, which destroys the pigment. This method has several disadvantages, such as the risk of scarring and burning of surrounding skin cells. Healing with this method is also very painful and lengthy. Method 2: Dermabrasion. Here, the top layer of skin containing the tattoo ink is removed using a milling cutter or sandblasting device. This treatment also carries risks. Local anesthesia is required. Permanent scarring usually remains after this method. Method 3: Chemical peel. In treatment with a chemical peel, which usually consists of concentrated fruit acid, the upper layers of skin are removed. The final removal of the pigments is achieved using a sandblasting device, water, or other chemicals. Scarring is also to be expected with this type of treatment, and a lengthy healing process is to be expected. Method: Lactic Acid. In lactic acid treatment, as with tattooing, the lower layers of skin are opened with needles, and the lactic acid is injected beneath the skin. The body then perceives the tattooed ink as a foreign substance and rejects it. However, this method should be approached with caution, as it can cause health problems. The skin and mucous membranes can become severely irritated, which can also lead to scarring.

As a laser center, we have various lasers at our disposal. Tattoo removal is also possible in-house using the YAG laser.

Ideally, a freshly inked tattoo should heal completely first. We recommend that a tattoo be at least six months old before it can be removed with laser therapy.
