Spider veins
Small red veins visible just beneath the skin's surface are called spider veins. They appear primarily on the legs. These reddish, branching lines in the upper layer of skin are generally harmless. They are neither a disease nor do they cause discomfort, but they do detract from the skin's appearance. For this reason, they are often perceived as bothersome. Therefore, many people decide to have them removed at our Medical and Laser Center in Frankfurt, Wiesbaden. Various methods can be used for this procedure.
They can generally appear anywhere on the body, but most commonly first on the inner thighs, as well as on the upper thighs and the sides of the feet. They can be caused by a congenital weakness of the connective tissue. However, they can also indicate a venous disorder or occur as a result of significant weight loss.
Spider veins can be a precursor to varicose veins. In fact, they are a type of mini-varicose vein. Spider veins are found in approximately 60% of all women and men between the ages of 20 and 29. This was the finding of a study conducted at the dermatology department of the University Hospital of Bonn. One in five people in this age group already has varicose veins.
They are primarily an aesthetic concern. We are rarely aware of cases among our customers where they cause pain. However, any newly appearing spider veins should always be examined by a doctor at one of our branches located within the Medical and Laser Center in Frankfurt and Wiesbaden.
Varicose veins may already be present in deeper layers of the skin. In this case, appropriate measures must be taken, such as increased physical activity and, in some cases, wearing special compression stockings. If you have any further questions, the Medical and Laser Center in Frankfurt and Wiesbaden will be happy to assist you.
